GOALS

  • Foster interdisciplinary collaboration between engineers and surgeons to develop novel surgical devices
  • Develop real-world innovative devices through a bench-to-bedside translational process
  • Allow trainees with medical and engineering backgrounds to gain experience in hands-on device design

APPROACH

  • Assemble teams of engineering and medical professionals and students to work on clinical problems that require an innovative approach

WORKING PROCESS

  • Needs assessment (high yield clinical problem)
  • Establish limitations of the state of the art
  • Establish of design parameters (expert input and benchwork-based)
  • Assess of available technologies to achieve the design parameters
  • Design and prototype product
  • Test prototype in in vitro and in vivo models
